A correction to the earlier post : I'd said that my Databases endsem didn't go that well. Um...now that I've gotten the marks I should say that it did go well cos for the first time at IITK, I got a batch-max.

I had two end semester exams yesterday. TA was as usual , not good.
Databases was interesting though...it didn't go that well but the paper was different from most of the other exams that I had given :

I crammed whatever was taught into class and went for the DB exam. But hardly anything they asked was directly from whaty was taught...which is why it was interesting... the first question was a surprise : they gave us some typical situations where there is information exchange and we had to decide the technologies to be used at the client and server ends. As such, nothing much regarding this had been taught, so it was just making your own choice and justifying it.

There were a few questions that were standard and again a new question where we had to design a protocol. Off hand, I don't remember being asked a design question in any endsem, except perhaps once in a data structures midsem (though that was more of problem solving rather than design).

Anyway...now I have a 2 day gap until my next exam on Thursday, then another on Friday and the last one on Monday. I will be going home on 4th and returning to IITK on 15th, tentatively.

That's it for now...I'm off ot have breakfast.

Thursday, April 13, 2006

Well it's 10:30 am and its been an amazingly bad day so far.. I woke up as usual at 6. I went to the mess at 7:30 for breakfast but they said that breakfast would be served only at 8.

Then at 7:50 I went to the railway reservation counter to book a few tickets. There was a long line even before the counter opened. On top of that the person at the counter was frustratingly inefficient and processed the tickets of four people in half an hr. Finally when it was my turn, it turns out that none of my tickets were confirmed, all were waitlisted, though in one case, the online system had said 100 seats were left.

I had my MME lab project presentation scheduled at 9:50. I couldnt print the lab reports in the hall printer as it was out of paper. So I went from the railway counter to the main CC and printed everything there. It was 9:40 when I reached the CC (yes, I was at the railway counter for 1.5 hrs) and in my haste I ended up printing the ME report instead of the MME report. I realised that only after I had reached the MME lab and so had to rush back again. Finally, I reached with the reports at 9:55 and my groups presentation was already half finished.

I walked in to join the presentation and at that moment, my phone decides to ring (and the profs give me 'looks'). I went out and left the mobile with someone and came back for the last 60 seconds. The presentation didn't go well and the profs were trying to find defects in the project. After the project, I went to the TA canteen to have breakfast... even there, though I paid for an item, apparently the person making it didnt hear it when the person at the counter shouted it to him. So more frustration.

Anyway, I guess I should look at the bright side : things can't get worse.

PS: Well my browser crashed after I typed this blog and so I had to type this blog again, so hmm maybe things could indeed get worse!
